EMILIANA’S ORGANIC WINES RECOGNIZED AT THE SAKURA AWARDS IN JAPAN

For the seventh consecutive year, the women of Japan’s wine industry delivered their judgements at the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, an event that highlights the value for money of wines as well as their ability to accompany Japanese cuisine.

In this edition, they received 4,333 wines from 29 countries. The prizes are awarded based on a 100-point scale, awarding Double Gold, Gold, and Silver medals.

Emiliana, the largest organic winery in the world, was recognized for Coyam 2017 and Vigno 2015, both receiving gold medals, and Gê 2015 received a double gold medal.

The Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards have gained prestige in Asia. Founded by Yumi Tanabe, an influential wine journalist, the Sakura awards have become an important platform for the participating wineries to launch and promote their products in the emerging Japanese market.

Currently, wine consumption in Japan is concentrated in the large metropolitan cities, but has been expanding strongly into rural areas. The winning wines are available to consumers in restaurants as well as supermarkets, wine shops, and online
