Emiliana’s wines are making history

7 March 2023

Viña Emiliana reached a historic milestone in the most recent report of scores published by the North American critic James Suckling, who pointed out the quality of the organic vineyard’s offerings and awarded the biodynamic Gê with 98 points, placing Emiliana’s icon once more among the best wines from Chile.

In his report, Zekun Shuai, senior editor at jamessuckling.com granted more than 90 points to 19 of the winery’s organic wines, demonstrating that Emiliana’s organic farming -which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary- is capable of delivering great quality.

For winemakers Noelia Orts and Emilio Contreras, these are excellent results. Both agree that “Emiliana is now much more focused on premium wines, with an agricultural and winemaking work that is producing superb results. This positions the company not only as a large volume winery of organic wines, but emphasizes its capacity to generate high quality products with worldwide recognition.”

Gê 2020 was not the only wine to surprise with 98 points. Also Coyam 2021, which scored 95 points and Signos de Origen Chardonnay/Roussanne 2022, and Novas Stellar Selection 2021, both with 94 points.

Regarding our icon Gê 2020, Noelia pointed out that the high score was reached despite being 2020 a complex year, very warm and with little rain in winter. “In an extremely difficult year, Gê 2020 manages to show itself as a fresh and tense wine, partly because in this particular blend we worked with Malbec and Grenache, and not just the classic Syrah, Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, a fact that was highly valued.”
