Emiliana wines awarded high scores in new report from critic James Suckling
With respect to the Chilean winemaking industry, the expert indicated that despite the fact that the 2020 vintage took place under conditions of extreme heat, drought, and the pandemic, the country hasn’t lost its “throne as the king of consistency.”
“While tasting the stockpile of Chilean wines in our Hong Kong office in April and May, after getting through more than 1,100 bottles, our fears were dispelled: against all odds, the unfailingly high quality of the country’s wines still shined through, and you can safely keep popping the corks”, the critic wrote in his report.
Additionally, Suckling made a special mention of Syrah and Mediterranean grape varieties in general, indicating that “once again both varieties rose to the top of our tastings this year, showing excellent compatibility with the country’s new dry-climate pattern”. Along the same lines, he added the vision of Noelia Orts, Emiliana’s winemaker, in his report, who agreed with his assessment about the potential for these grape varieties to overcome the challenge of the climatic conditions of late.
This is not the first time that James Suckling has highlighted wines made organically and biodynamically, positioning Emiliana in the vanguard of this type of viticulture in the world. In his previous report about Chilean winemaking, available at https://www.jamessuckling.com, Suckling indicated that “biodynamic agriculture is indeed one of the highlights of Chile that we should not overlook”.
