VIÑA EMILIANA CELEBRATES A SUCCESSFUL 2024 VINTAGE, HIGHLIGHTING ITS ADAPTABILITY AND QUALITY

22 July 2024

Santiago, Chile. - Despite the climatic challenges that characterized the season, we concluded our 2024 harvest with outstanding quality and adaptability, showing a recovery of the soils after years of drought.

This year’s harvest, which began the first week of January in Limarí and finished the first week of May in Palmeras. The cycle was marked by an exceptionally rainy winter, which benefited the soils and enabled an optimal development of the vines. It is worth mentioning that this longer vintage -with pauses between the harvests of different valleys- allowed us to accomplish a much more detailed and focused work in the winery that permitted obtaining wines of much finer quality.

Noelia Orts, winemaker of Premium Wines, commented on how the organic grape varieties showed diverse responses to the different climate conditions of this season. She particularly highlighted how a warmer winter in Limarí led to moving the harvest forward. “This resulted in bunches of smaller size but with excellent concentration and acidity, something crucial for the quality of our wines,” Orts explained.

Noelia also pointed out the diversity of Chile’s terroir as a key element in Emiliana’s adaptability. “It is fascinating to see how, in such a long country, with vineyards in different valleys, we face unique climatic challenges in each area. This diversity forces us to be extremely agile and adaptative in our approach to viticulture,” she commented.

On his part, Emilio Contreras -winemaker of Emiliana’s Reserva and Gran Reserva wines- pointed out that in other areas, harvest started with a delay of two to three weeks, permitting the grapes to ripen at a more slow and controlled pace, resulting in wines with lower alcohol levels and marked acidities. “The wines of this vintage are particularly fresh and fruity, with high natural acidity, thus reflecting the exceptional quality of this year,” stated Contreras.

Another fact also worthy of mention was the significant recovery of the soils after an extended drought. Andrés Aparicio, Agricultural Manager, emphasized the importance of abundant precipitations: “This hydric reloading has helped us to get out of drought and allowed us a vigorous vegetative development that translates directly into better grape quality and efficiency of the viticultural and winemaking process.”
