EMILIANA’S ORGANIC WINES STAND OUT AMONG THE “TOP 100 WINES OF CHILE 2023” IN JAMES SUCKLING’S YEARLY RANKING
The prestigious list of the “Top 100 Wines of Chile 2023”, shaped by the North American critic James Suckling, recognized three of Viña Emiliana’s organic wines in his most recent edition: Gê 2020, the vineyard’s icon, which reached place number six scoring 98 points, and Coyam 2021 and Maycas del Limarí,
Pinot Noir 2021, both with 95 points.
Suckling made a special praise of Maycas Pinot Noir 2021, which originated in the promising and new organic project from the Limarí Valley, Coquimbo Region. The area is well-known for having Chile’s best soils and climate for producing world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Another organic wine that shone on this year’s list was Coyam 2021 from Colchagua, which obtained 95 points. This blend, which will soon celebrate its 20th vintage, was acclaimed for its “wonderful mix of fine spices, black pepper, pineapple and tobacco, along with fruits like blackberries and cherries.”
This wine, of medium to full body, impressed for its tannic texture, described as “very fine grained and creamy”, and the harmonious integration of its juicy fruits.
For Noelia Orts, the winemaker of the vineyard, these results are very good: “They speak of an Emiliana much more focused on premium wines, with an agricultural and winemaking work that is producing very good results. They position Emiliana not just as a great vineyard of organic volume wines, but they point out its capacity to generate high quality products which are recognized world-wide.”
The process of selecting the Top 100 Wines of the World 2023 was especially competitive this year, with more than 39,000 wines evaluated by a team of seven editors of the James Suckling Wine Tasting. The inclusion of these three organic wines honors Viña Emiliana and its 25-year project driven by organic and biodynamic agriculture.
