Emiliana’s Gê 2019 selected among the ten best Chilean wines in James Suckling’s report
The wine world is starting to close the season with the year’s last assessments. In line with this, Gê 2019, Emiliana’s biodynamic and organic icon, was selected among the best ten Chilean wines in the latest report on the local wine market by the influential US wine critic James Suckling.
The evaluation of the 100 best national wines highlighted that the first Chilean red certified biodynamic since its debut in 2003 showed the enormous potential of wines based on Syrah and Carmenère grown in the dry and sunny Mediterranean climate of the Colchagua Valley. It also pointed out that Gê is “one of the smartest buys on the list.”
The critic granted Gê 97 points out of a maximum of 100, stating that it is a “very bright, juicy red that shows a core of complex flavors with multiple layers of elegance and finesse; a really smooth and long wine, with a vibrant, yet refined finish.” Suckling recommended “drinking it now,” but that consumers “will benefit from its aging.”
In his latest report on the Chilean wine industry, the expert noted that although the 2020 harvest occurred under high heat, drought, and pandemic, the country did not lose its throne as “the king of consistency.”
Suckling made a special mention of Syrah and the Mediterranean varieties, placing them again at the top of this year’s tastings.
This report has not been the first in which James Suckling has distinguished the organically and biodynamically crafted wines, positioning Emiliana at the forefront of this type of agriculture in the world. In a former general report on our local viticulture, available at www.jamessuckling.com, Suckling indicated that “the biodynamic agriculture is, in fact, one of the most outstanding aspects of Chile, which we should not overlook.”
