A “VERY GOOD QUALITY” 2020 HARVEST AT EMILIANA
Cristián Rodríguez, General Manager of Emiliana, says he’s satisfied with this vintage. The “quality” of the organic and biodynamic wines, as well as the healthy grapes, has made him happy.
“…it was a good harvest, with healthy grapes and improved yields versus the previous year, with quality wines”
Cristián Rodríguez | General Manager
“In terms of quality, the 2020 vintage is looking rather positive. The organic wines are very good, fresh, easy to drink, with good minerality and acidity. The harvest was early, meaning very little overripening, as well as an increase in yields with respect to the previous year, with 2.5% more grapes than in 2019,” he added.
In more general terms, he concludes that it was “a good harvest, with healthy grapes and improved yields versus the previous year, with quality wines.”
Winemaker Noelia Orts agrees, highlighting both the “good vintage”, with “very healthy” organic and biodynamic grapes and wines with “good color, aromas, and elegant tannins.”
“There’s no doubt that there’s very good quality this year. The wines are very expressive, with good typicity and a broad aromatic palate. The colors are very good, and the aromas are fresh, all thanks to the decision to harvest the grapes earlier this year”. Specifically, she mentions the Carmenere that has “notes appearing that were more floral and less pyrazinic.”

Despite the optimism of both the general manager and the winemaker, at Emiliana we’ve noted how climate change is strongly affecting the work at the winery, moving up and compressing harvest dates, translating into shorter harvests. This year was a particularly challenging year, not just with the weather, but also because the first cases of COVID-19 were beginning to appear in Chile, but luckily we finished the harvest very satisfied with the results and with the Emiliana team, that during these difficult times, really put their best foot forward.
