Emiliana launches 57 Rocas its new organic Carmenere

15 July 2022

57 Rocas is the name of the new Carmenere that Emiliana will be launching in the next few days. It comes from the Los Robles Estate in the Colchagua Valley, a D.O. well-known across the world for being the cradle of great Carmenère wines.

Noelia Orts, the winemaker at Emiliana, states that 57 Rocas is “a tribute to Los Robles (in Colchagua), the estate that holds Emiliana’s oldest Carmenere vines and whose soils provide an exceptional varietal typicity. In addition to rescuing its unique and distinctive character and working on its winemaking, we now add an additional factor: we also wanted its aging to enhance its unique and exceptional personality.”

To this end, 57 Rocas was aged for 15 months. 92% of the blend was kept in ovoid-shaped concrete vats, and the remaining 8% in French oak barrels. This, and the fact that Carmenère wines from Los Robles show a balanced acidity due to the slightly acidic pH of the soil, results in a fascinating silky profile on the palate that accentuates the variety’s characteristic fruit and aromatic profile.

Andrés Aparicio, Emiliana’s Agricultural Manager, explains that “in Los Robles, the oldest Carmenère vineyards, which are part of the vineyard’s DNA, are over 30 years old and very qualitative. They therefore require the careful work of biodynamic agriculture, with an emphasis on integrated production.”

57 Rocas is the third high-end wine that stems from Los Robles. It adds to Gê and Coyam, which have received numerous acknowledgments over the years.
