VIÑA EMILIANA’S BIODYNAMIC GÊ AMONG THE BEST WINES OF THE WORLD IN 2023
The Chilean organic viticulture has achieved a new accomplishment: Gê 2020, Viña Emiliana’s blend, was selected among the Top 100 Wines of the World 2023 in the ranking prepared by the US wine critic James Suckling.
The team of James Suckling awarded this organic and biodynamic wine from the Los Robles Estate in Colchagua
Valley with 98 points. The tasting note of Gê 2020 points out that this is the first harvest that the organic vineyard leaves out Cabernet Sauvignon, opting instead to incorporate Grenache, “which provides a marked Mediterranean accent.”
Gê 2020 is a blend made up of Syrah, Carmenère, Malbec and Grenache. This combination results in a wine that is “very easy to drink,” perfect for both enjoying immediately or keeping.
Noelia Orts, winemaker at Emiliana, points out the excellent score despite a year of significant challenges marked by high temperatures and scarce rainfall during winter. “It was an extremely defiant year, but Gê always stands out as a wine that maintains its freshness and structure. This, in part, is the result of a particular combination of grapes, which include Malbec and Grenache in addition to more traditional varieties, like Syrah and Carmenère,” she commented.
In Suckling’s Top 100 Wines of Chile 2021, Gê was chosen as Chile’s number 1 wine.
The selection process for the Top 100 Wines of the World 2023 was especially competitive this year, with more than 39,000 wines evaluated by the seven editors of James Suckling’s Wine Tasting Team. The incorporation of Gê in this list not only honors Viña Emiliana and its 25-year project committed to organic and biodynamic agriculture, but it also uplifts the name of Chile in the world’s wine scene.
